The Santa Barbara International Film Festival will honor actor, screenwriter and producer Emma Thompson with the Modern Master Award at the 29th edition of the Fest, which runs January 30 – February 9, 2014, it was announced today by SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling. The Tribute will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the historic Arlington Theatre and is sponsored by Adobe.

Metropolitan Theatres Corporation (“Metropolitan”) in conjunction with the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (“SBIFF”) announce that they have partnered to create The Showcase Film Series (The Showcase) beginning October 2, 2013. The Showcase will be programmed by SBIFF and Santa Barbara cinephiles will be offered exciting and innovative independent films which have not had a theatrical run in Santa Barbara. These weekly gems will be presented every Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the Plaza De Oro Theatre located at 371 South Hitchcock Way.

SBIFF’s summer fundraiser the Silver Screen Celebration was on Sunday August 25th. It consisted of a screening of the 1920′s silent classic film The Mark of Zorro with live pipe organ accompaniment at the Arlington Theatre. Following the screening was a masquerade ball at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum where guests enjoyed live entertainment, food, drinks and danced late into the night.
